Pakistan Academy of Neurological Surgery (PANS) is a not-for-profit educational academy. The mission is to promote academic, clinical, and research activities in neurosurgery, with the aim being to fill the knowledge and skill gaps of neurosurgery trainees and early-to-mid-career neurosurgeons.
In order to improve diagnostic acuity, operative planning, and complications management, the need for mastery of relevant neuroradiology modalities by a neurosurgeon cannot be overstressed. With this objective as the guiding light, a Neuroradiology learning (PANS-NRL) course is being introduced. The course will include a series of webinars encompassing key aspects of neuroradiology, with a special focus on the recent developments, blind spots, and clinical nuances to help neurosurgeons solve clinical problems encountered in everyday practice more accurately and efficiently.
Neuro-imaging is vital to patient care, and is at least as essential as an excellent neurological exam, or perhaps even more. Hence, a thorough understanding of neuro-imaging is a basic tenet of neurosurgical education, leading to more astute clinicians. In this course, we aim to comprehensively cover the neuroradiology curriculum, including understanding the basics of neuro-anatomy, identifying different neurosurgical pathologies accurately, and utilizing available neuroradiological tools in clinical decision-making, to improve patient care. The course faculty will include renowned national and international neurosurgeons, neurologists, and neuroradiologists.
Course content
The course consists of 24 sessions, over a period of 1 year. Sessions will be conducted fortnightly, on alternate Tuesdays, from 08:00 am to 09:00 am (Pakistan Standard Time; GMT+5). Topics will be planned so that the entire breadth of relevant neuroradiology is covered, with the target audience being neurosurgery trainees and early-to-mid-career neurosurgeons.
The sessions will be interactive and led by national and international experts. The first 30 minutes of the session will comprise a didactic lecture, which will be followed by 30 minutes of case-based discussion, with Q&As. Details of each session will be shared prior to the session.
The course offers ACCME credit hours.
