August 15, 2025
On August 15, 2025, Mission: Brain Pakistan, in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Interest Group (NSIG), hosted an engaging seminar on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Parkinson’s disease at Aga Khan University, with a hybrid audience joining both in-person and via Zoom. The event brought together over 110 virtual participants from across Asia and more than 30 in-person attendees, marking a significant step in raising awareness about advanced neurosurgical treatments for movement disorders.
We were honored to host two distinguished speakers. Dr. Jawad Bajwa, Founding Director of the Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration Program at the National Neuroscience Institute, Riyadh, shared his extensive clinical and surgical expertise on DBS, offering insights into its transformative role in Parkinson’s management. Dr. Sajid Hameed, trained in Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorders at the University of Virginia, USA, and in Clinical Neurophysiology at Aga Khan University, presented on the practical aspects, challenges, and evolving future of DBS in clinical practice.
The session highlighted the core principles of DBS, surgical techniques, patient selection criteria, and recent advancements. Lively Q&A sessions encouraged knowledge-sharing between experts, medical students, and early-career doctors, reinforcing the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in neuroscience.
This event was not only an educational milestone but also a reminder of the potential of modern neurosurgery in improving quality of life for patients with Parkinson’s Disease. Mission: Brain Pakistan and NSIG remain committed to fostering such academic platforms that connect global expertise with local learning opportunities.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our speakers, participants, and organizers who made this seminar impactful and inspiring.
