Day 1
The first day of the 5th Annual Neuro-Oncology Symposium was an intellectual feast, starting with “Molecular Markers in Glioma” by Dr. Aisha Memon. The first session concluded with a Question/Answers segment with all the speakers. After tea, the conference was formally inaugurated by Dr. Adnan Jabbar, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Syed Ather Enam, and an inspiring speech by Mr. Mushtaq Chhapra, the Chief Guest. The first two keynote speakers, Dr. Patrick Wen and Dr. Sara Piccirillo, presented insightful research on “Recent advancements in the treatment of gliomas” and “Intra-tumour heterogeneity of human glioblastoma at single-cell and spatial resolution” respectively. Paediatric neuro-oncology was a cornerstone of the conference, with talks from Dr. Todd Hankinson and Dr. Ibrahim Qaddoumi. Novel surgical collaborations and targeted therapy were also discussed by Dr. Hamdan Pasha and Dr. Farrah Bashir respectively. The day concluded with the last session entirely dedicated to patient advocacy: a collection of perspectives from people affected by brain tumours in various ways.
Day 2
The 2nd Day of 5ANOS Scientific Program featured a series of presentations on neuro-oncology, covering topics such as radio genomics for brain tumor diagnosis by Dr. Zafar Sajjad, management of pineal region tumors in adolescents by Dr. Todd Hankinson, recent advances in spine tumor treatment by Dr. Salman Sharif, and late effects of CNS tumors in children by Dr. Ibrahim Qaddoumi. The program also included discussions on sub-total resection for facial nerve preservation in vestibular schwannoma by Dr. Ehsan Bari, factors predicting prolonged hospital stay after craniotomy by Dr. Zanib Javed, and the efficacy and safety of laser interstitial thermal therapy for glioblastoma by Dr. Marium Sultan Dar. The day concluded with a panel discussion on the challenges to global neuro-oncology featuring Dr. Todd Hankinson, Dr. Ibrahim Qaddoumi and, Dr. Adnan Jabbar.
