Omar A. Choudhri is a dual-trained cerebrovascular, endovascular, and skull base neurosurgeon and a proud graduate of the Aga Khan University, where he earned his medical degree as the top student and recipient of the Gold Medal. After early clinical training in Pakistan, he pursued neurosurgery residency and an interventional neuroradiology fellowship at Stanford University, followed by cerebrovascular research training at UCSF and advanced skull base fellowship training at UT Health Houston. He also holds a Master of Health Care Innovation from the University of Pennsylvania and is board-certified in neurological surgery with a focused certification in endovascular neurosurgery.
Dr. Choudhri served for eight years on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine with joint appointments in Neurosurgery and Radiology, where he built a comprehensive neurovascular program integrating microsurgical and endovascular approaches. His clinical expertise spans complex aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, cerebral revascularization, skull base pathology, and minimally invasive techniques, with particular focus on venous cerebrovascular disease and novel access strategies. He has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to landmark clinical trials including SELECT2, and serves as a reviewer for leading journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Neurosurgery, and the Journal of Neuro-interventional Surgery. His research interests include advanced neurovascular imaging, cerebral venous pathology, glymphatic physiology, and neuroendovascular robotics.
A dedicated educator and mentor with deep ties to Pakistan’s neurosurgical community, Dr. Choudhri has trained over 20 neurosurgery residents and neurovascular fellows and is a frequent invited speaker at major international meetings including SNIS, WFITN, LINNC, and the World Federation of Neurosurgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and holds consulting and proctoring roles with multiple leading neurovascular device companies. Dr. Choudhri remains committed to advancing neurosurgical education, research collaboration, and mentorship across borders — fostering the next generation of neurosurgeons in Pakistan and around the world.
