Mirza, Farhan


Dr. Mirza received his medical degree from the Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC) in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed neurosurgery residency at the University of Kentucky, followed by subspecialty fellowship training in adult and pediatric epilepsy surgery, as well as adult brain tumors, at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI), McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. He was also a visiting fellow in pediatric epilepsy surgery at the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for Children in London, England.

Dr. Mirza currently serves as Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology, and the Director of Adult & Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery at the University of Kentucky. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) and is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS).

In his practice, Dr. Mirza focuses on the surgical treatment of refractory epilepsy, brain tumors, and skull base pathologies, and pediatric neurosurgical diseases. He also serves as the neurosurgery medical student clerkship and advanced development director. His research is directed towards epilepsy surgery and brain tumor outcomes, neuroimaging in epilepsy, and novel imaging methods for the localization of epileptogenic foci and networks. He has a keen interest in global neurosurgical education, particularly the development of comprehensive refractory epilepsy and brain tumor care in Pakistan.
