Prof. Shahzad Shamim is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, and the Chief of Services for Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Psychiatry at the Aga Khan University, Karachi. He completed his MBBS from Dow Medical College and later trained as a neurosurgeon at the Aga Khan University. He completed an AANS Visiting Surgeon Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI, USA, and later went on to complete a Fellowship in Spine Surgery at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, UK.
He has a Specialist Certification in Neurosurgery from the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies and UEMS, an FRCS (Neurosurgery) from Glasgow, an FRCS from England, and FACS, Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Shamim is the inaugural Director of the Surgical Neuro-Oncology Fellowship Program and the Dean’s Clinical Research Fellowship Program, as well as the former Internship Program Director. In December 2021, he was awarded the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award by the Department of Surgery at Aga Khan University. An avid academic, he has authored around 200 manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters is on the editorial board of five journals, and reviews for more than 20 journals.
